PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical combustion device preventing partial flow of combustion gas by uniformizing a combusted substance on grates. SOLUTION: In this vertical combustion device wherein a combustion space is formed so that a furnace main body 10 is vertically extended, a charging part 13 is formed on an upper part for charging the substance to be combusted from the external to the combustion space, a discharging part 22 is formed at a lower part for discharging the substance after the combustion, the grates 18, 19 are mounted between the charging part 13 and the discharging part 22 in the vertical direction, and reciprocatable pushers 20, 21 are mounted at an upper part of the grates to uniformize the substance on the grates, the plurality of pushers 20, 21 are arranged in parallel at intervals in the lateral direction vertical to the reciprocating direction, and the pushers are independently movable.
