PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving good graininess with a value of "graininess degree" of 0.30 or below even if an error diffusion method excellent in the sharpness of an image or writing positional precision and hard to cause a moire is employed. SOLUTION: When the lengths of one pixel calculated based on resolving powers in the main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction of irradiated light are respectively set to Lp1 and Lp2 and the beam diameters in the main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction of irradiated light on a photosensitive drum 1 are set to D1 and D2, the relations of D1<Lp1 and D2<Lp2 are satisfied and the volume average particle size of toner in a developing agent used in a developing device 4 is 5.5μm or below.
