PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely monitor purge of a standby boiler. SOLUTION: This device comprises a burner 8, a blower 10 supplying air for combustion, and a discharge section 11 for discharge gas. In this method for monitoring a boiler 1 burning and stopping of the burner 8 according to a load and purging the blower 10 by operating the blower 10 during stopping of the burner 8, the purging is monitored by detecting air flow inside a ventilation passage 14 from the blower 10 to the discharge section 11 during stopping of the burner 8.
