PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rewritable hologram recording medium which is stable at room temperature for a long period while achieving 100% diffraction efficiency and which can have a bragg diffraction grating of high angle selectivity formed and is capable of repetitive recording and erasure. SOLUTION: The hologram recording medium is formed by using as a hologram recording material a photochromic high polymer including a photochromic component, a transparency imparting component, and a liquid crystal component. This photochromic high polymer is obtained by polymerizing a photochromic monomer, a transparency imparting monomer, and a liquid crystal monomer. The ratio of the photochromic component, transparency imparting component, and liquid crystal component in the photochromic high polymer is selected preferably out of 1 to 10 mol%, 40 to 90%, and 10 to 50 mol% respectively.
