Rubber compound is processed successively by two twin screw extruders with screws rotating in the same direction and a following twin screw extruder with contra-rotating screws. Preferred Features: The two twin screw extruders rotating in the same direction and the contra-rotating twin screw extruder may lie behind each other. Alternatively the extruders with co-rotating screws are parallel to and above one another and the pairs of screws may rotate in the same or opposing directions. The two twin screw extruders are followed by a twin screw extruder with contra-rotating screws to increase pressure. In the latter case one of the screw shafts of each screw pair with different rotational directions is extended and merges into the screw shaft of the following twin screw extruder causing the screw shafts of the latter to rotate in opposite directions. |
