Cold runner injection molding tool for vulcanizing elastomers has horizontally clamped wedges which close off runners in the cold runner block

The tool has a cold runner block with runners(2,2a) and a corresponding number of movable and removable runner closure blocks(1,3) each held in profiled recesses(9) in the block. Each closure block comprises a clampable block of similar shape to the profiled recess and is horizontally inserted into the latter. When clamped in position against the cold runner block each block forms a pressure resistant seal for the corresponding runner. No other fasteners are employed to connect the closure block with the cold runner block in a vertical direction. Closure blocks(1,3) are formed by two wedges located one above the other with wedge faces facing each other. The underside of the lower wedge(3) may have the complete cut-out forming the corresponding horizontal runner(2). Wedges and cold runner block are screwed(5) together. Runners are radial to the inlet nozzle(7) and run into the lower area of the latter. An independent claim is included for a cold runner system comprising two or more of the claimed cold runner tools connected to each other.
