PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of reducing the sense of oppression caused by the narrowness of a gantry. SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is provided with a magnetic field generating device 1 for generating a static magnetic field, a gradient magnetic field and a high-frequency magnetic field in a space where a subject 14 can enter and a display means for displaying an image obtained by the magnetic generating device 1. In addition, a means for making the subject 14 feel as if a cover 7 facing the face of the subject were located farther away from a position where the cover is actually present is mounted on the cover 7 which faces the face of the subject when the subject 14 lies on the back inside the gantry including the magnetic generating device of the magnetic resonance imaging apparatus.
