Composite heat exchanger for use in the construction of chemical apparatus comprises a metal frame body (1) and a stack (2) of plates made of fiber-reinforced ceramic. The stack of plates consists of a number of flat plates (3, 3') made up of a flat frame plate placed on a non-profiled flat base plate. Peripheral sealing elements (6) serving as spacers are arranged between the individual flat plates. Preferred Features: The base plate and the frame plate are made of a fiber-reinforced ceramic material. Coated filaments are arranged in an ordered state in a ceramic matrix.
