A printing control apparatus comprises a plurality of interfaces for receiving input data from a host computer; and a plurality of data conversion means for converting the input data received from the host computer into code data that can be interpreted by a printing apparatus; characterized by discriminating means for discriminating whether one of the plurality of data conversion means is a candidate for or at least two of the plurality of data conversion means are candidates for one of the plurality of interfaces which receives the input data; selection means for, if said discrimination means discriminates that at least two of the plurality of data conversion means are candidates for the one interface, analyzing commands included in the input data and for, based on the analyzed commands, selecting one of the at least two data conversion means; and printing control means for effecting data conversion, wherein said printing control means is adapted to use, if said discrimination means discriminates that one of the plurality of data conversion means is a candidate for the one interface, the one data conversion means, and said selection means is adapted to select, if said discrimination means discriminates that at least two of the plurality of data conversion means are candidates for the one interface, the one of the at least two data conversion means and said printing control means is adapted to use the selected one data conversion means. |
