<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the height of a pointing device, and to improve detection accuracy thereof. <P>SOLUTION: In the pointing device 1, having a structure wherein an elastic base plate 2 provided with a plurality of strain-resistant elements serving as a sensor portion is mounted on a base 4 under the condition where the plate 2 is held in an outer circumferential part thereof, a recessed part 28 is provided in an upper face of a metal plate 5 while constituting the base 4 of the metal plate 5 and a flexible wiring board 6, the flexible wiring board 6 is arranged along the recessed part 28, and the elastic base plate 2 is mounted on the recessed part 28 of the metal plate 5 via the flexible wiring board 6, so as to reduce the height. Positional correction by self-alignment is carried out in a process for connecting a terminal electrode in an elastic base plate 2 side to a conductive land in a flexible wiring board 6 side by reflow soldering, and the elastic base plate 2 is thereby aligned properly with flexible wiring board 6 to enhance the precision.
