PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for carrying out high-speed hydrophilization of a fiber, a nonwoven fabric or a woven fabric. SOLUTION: The method for carrying out the hydrophilization treatment involves treating the fiber, the nonwoven fabric or the woven fabric in a state of being present at the vicinity of a cathode electrode or contacting with the cathode electrode for≤3 sec in a capacity-coupling type plasma having a value of≥1×10<SP>10</SP>cm<SP>-3</SP>and≤1×10<SP>13</SP>cm<SP>-3</SP>maximum electron density in a chamber having an evacuation ability while allowing a gas containing≥50% one of oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, dinitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide to flow and while keeping the pressure state of≥5 Pa and≤100 Pa to carry out the hydrophilization.
