The method involves bringing together friction surfaces till a tightening position in response to a control signal of a brake. The surfaces are separated till a predetermined release position in response to the control signals to reduce the force till a residual value. The value is characterized by separating the surface from the position to another release position in response to detection of a drive state. An independent claim is also included for an electromechanical braking system.
