PURPOSE: A method for transmitting and receiving digital broadcasting program information is provided to additionally transmit hot event information on important broadcasting programs by a digital broadcasting transmitter, and to detect the hot event information by a digital broadcasting receiver, so that a user can easily confirm and select the information on the programs. CONSTITUTION: An encoder(20) encodes a digital broadcasting stream into an MPEG data stream. A multiplexer and modulator(21) multiplexes and modulates the encoded MPEG data stream and SI(Service Information) generated by an SI generator(22), and delivers the data stream and the SI to a broadcasting satellite through an up linker. The SI generator(22) additionally records and outputs hot event information generated from a hot event information generator(23) to the SI. The hot event information generator(23) generates information on important broadcasting programs as the hot event information.
