PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for winding synthetic fiber capable of keeping high thread guard success rate without winding a tail bunch and for different kinds such as thread thickness or lubricant when the thread is wound on a bobbin or paper tube. SOLUTION: The winding method of the synthetic fiber comprises a traversing device for laterally traversing the thread before winding, a thread supply guide for guiding the thread to the traversing device, a contact pressure roller for supplying a predetermined contact pressure to the wound thread, a tube 5 for thread winding having a thread gripping section 6 mounted to a spindle for winding the thread, a thread guiding guide 3 that introduces the thread to the thread gripping section of the tube for thread winding and is disposed between the thread supply guides and the tube for thread winding, and a thread guard guide 7 for making the thread 2 gripped by the thread gripping section of the tube for thread winding. In the winding method of the synthetic fiber, using a property where the thread is vertically wound from the thread supply guide, the thread moves in the center direction of the traverse to form tail winding, then it engages with a traverse guide, and winding is started with a normal winding width.
