The linear actuator (1) has a drive rod, parallel with which is a linearly movably guided guide unit (22). The guide unit and the drive rod are movable relative to one another both in the direction of the driving movement, which is axial, and at right angles to it, which is radial. The movability is limited by a spring assembly, under the co-action of which the guide unit and drive rod are axially tensioned to one another, and for axial deformation of which a larger force than the drive force is required.
