PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device and a camera which are capable of preventing a photographer from selecting such a distance range as focusing on an unintended object, a focusing program therefor, and a recording medium with the program recorded thereto. SOLUTION: The camera 10 with the focusing device is provided with an infrared area sensor 11 with two-dimensionally arrayed micro-infrared receiving elements responding to specific infrared wavelengths, a focus detecting sensor 13 with two-dimensionally arrayed micro-infrared receiving elements, a photographing lens 15, and a microcomputer 20, and the microcomputer 20 selects a main object area among a plurality of areas dividing an observation surface into the areas based on a detection result of the infrared area sensor 11 for detecting the infrared intensity of the specific wavelengths from a plurality of points within the observation surface, and controls focus adjustment of the photographing lens 15 based on the distance up to the object in the selected area.
