PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive that can reliably set up the focus and tracking offset in a short time for multiple kinds of optical disks, including small capacity recording disks. SOLUTION: This optical disk drive has a means of discriminating the changes caused by presence or absence of recording on an optical disk, by using a recording area discrimination signals such as the information signals, synchronization signals or tracking signals, and a drive means for moving the optical pickup to a inner periphery side. It sets up a highly precise offset in a short time for the multiple disks including the optical disks in which a small amount of recording is carried out by discriminating the presence or absence of recording by recording area discrimination signals, while the optical pickup is moved to the inner periphery side of the disk.
