PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a deodorizing material that can excellently deodorize various kinds of gases can be manufactured. SOLUTION: The deodorizing material is manufactured by forming a wet gel by using alkoxysilane, water, a solvent, a gelatinized catalyst, and an adsorbent having chemical adsorption. Then the formed gel is dried without collapsing pores by drying the gel from a solvent having a small surface tension after the gel is supercritically dried or subjected to hydrophobic treatment. Since the gel contains the adsorbent having extremely high chemical adsorption for adsorbing sulfur-based odors, particularly, hydrogen sulfide and is constituted in a porous structure having many pores from meso pores to submicron-sized pores, the deodorizing material having a large surface area per unit volume and higher deodorizing ability than a conventional granular deodorizing material has can be manufactured.
