Deviating device comprises a suction opening (2) extending across the strip feeding direction and a low pressure pump (5) connected to the suction opening via a connecting channel (3) on the suction side to produce a suction pressure between the strip and the suction opening. The suction pressure on the suction opening varies over the suction opening to produce a suction force acting on the strip across the strip running direction. An independent claim is also included for a process for deviating a strip moving in a strip running direction.
