<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for inspecting aerial wires provided with a compact retreating device which has good stability, can travel even if an obstacle is large, and causes no barrier in carrying in and out equipment. <P>SOLUTION: This device for inspecting the aerial wires is a device for inspecting and taking pictures in remote control of damaged conditions of an overhead ground wire W laid in transmission and distribution lines, by traveling on the aerial wires including the wires W and power lines by a traveling roller 4. A driven pressing roller 6, which is driven gripping the wire W with traveling roller 4, is arranged beneath the traveling roller 4.
