For improved vaporization of fuel in combustion chambers (CC) (14) at a start-up temperature below a preset threshold value, CC temperature is raised before a direct start. Pre-heated air blows into CC of an internal combustion engine (ICE). An ICE's cylinder head heater device (66) is activated with a heater device in the ICE's cylinder walls. A cooling water circuit's heater (52) is activated. An independent claim is also included for a control device for controlling a direct start in an internal combustion engine.
