The invention relates to a foil for sealing a container, which holds a packaged product. Said foil comprises a printed image on the side facing away from the packaged product, said image having at least one area (12, 14) of brightness or colour that contrasts with the surrounding area. Inside said area (12, 14), the foil is provided with an additional lacquer layer (24). Said additional lacquer layer (24) can have a thickness of between 10 and 40 mu m and can lie on a lacquer layer (22) of the printed image (12, 14), or between the lacquer layer (22) of the printed image (12, 14) and a layer (26) consisting of an overlacquer. The foil can be stamped out of aluminium foil or an aluminium composite foil, which is not embossed.
