PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starter A for transmitting a driving force from a starter motor 30 to a crank gear 20 for starting provided in a crank shaft 7 of an engine 1 through an intermediate gear unit 21, capable of realizing sufficiently high mutual position precision of the gear in a transfer path of the driving force with a simple structure. SOLUTION: An oil pan 6 is made of relatively high rigidity casting, and which is installed so as to straddle a front cover 8 from a cylinder block 3 to the oil pan 6. The intermediate gear unit 21 is fixed on the side of cylinder block 3, and a cylindrical holding portion 22a is provided in the housing 22. A starter motor storing portion 6a is recessed and a through hole 36 is formed in the front of the oil pan 6, a part 32 to be inserted of the front end side of the starter motor 30 is inserted in the through hole 36, and the front end side of inserting object part 32 is faucet-jointed by fitting into the retaining part 22a of the intermediate gear unit 21.
