PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tablet disintegrant which containing starch as the base material, is effective at a low addition level, and has properties effective equally in water and in a physiological fluid. SOLUTION: The starch used here has a low solubility in cold water, a high swelling power, and an unstable birefringence which rapidly disappears when water is added.
