PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method capable of producing an image with stable sensitivity using a compact laser exposure and heat development device in which a laser exposure section and a heat development section are arranged close to each other. SOLUTION: In the image forming method which forms an image using an image recording apparatus comprising a lasing means to subject a heat developable photosensitive material having a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent and a binder on at least one surface of a support to scanning exposure with laser light and a means to convey the heat developable photosensitive material in a secondary scanning direction and to guide it to a heat development section, the reducing agent is at least one selected from the group of compounds represented by formula 1 and the distance between a scanning line by the lasing means and the inlet of the heat development section is≤50 cm.
