603,455. Producing aerosols for inhalation. SOC. ANON. TECO. Aug. 21, 1945, No. 21360. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1941. [Class 81 (ii)] An apparatus for use in the administration of medicinal aerosols comprises a hermetically sealed jar 1 in which the aerosols are developed or introduced and from which they can leave only by passing through a tube, one extremity 7, of which opens externally of the jar and is connected to the mask or other means of inhalation (not shown) used by the patient, whilst the other extremity 5 opens into the upper part of a transparent globe 4 or other similar transparent device (not shown) permitting the density of the aerosols to be ascertained and thereby controlled. As shown, the aerosol generator 3 is suspended from the cover 2 and connected at 8 to a source of compressed air or other gas, but it may be arranged externally of the jar and aerosols conveyed into the latter by means of a tube. The density of the aerosols may be ascertained by comparing the opacity of the globe 4 with suitable standards. When used on open circuit, the tube 6 is provided with an inspiration valve to avoid escape of aerosols, the mask has an expiration valve and the generator 3 continues to function. On closed circuit the generation of aerosols ceases and tube 6 and expiration valve of the mask are closed. |
