A flat knitting machine has two horizontally opposed needle beds with needle tongues (1, 2) terminating in hooks (5, 6) presented in-line with each other. One tongue (1) terminates in an upright groove that is presented to a matching spine on the opposite needle. Each tongue has a spoon zone that partially covers the hook, but without covering the opposing spoon while the loop is transferred. When the tongues (3, 4) are closed, the spoon tips and needle hook shapes form a wedge-shaped gap between the needle hook upper sides and the spoon lower face. The spoon ends are bevelled towards the tip.
|
