Closing device for a compartment closed by a flap (1), especially a glove compartment (2), in a motor vehicle comprises a latch (4) and a lock clip (5). The lock clip and/or the latch are held on the flap or a wall (3) of the glove compartment by a retaining force with a pre-defined release energy limit. Below the release energy limit when the flap is closed the retaining force ensures inflexible retaining of the latch and the lock clip and their holders. When the release force acting on the closing device exceeds the release energy limit when the form-locking connection remains intact, at least partial regions of the latch or lock clip or their holders are deformed and/or displaced on absorbing the release energy. Preferred Features: The deformation and/or displacement of the relevant parts is reversible.
