The printing plate recording device has an exposure drum (1) for reception of the printing plate (3), an exposure head, for provision of an exposure beam, displaced axially relative to the exposure drum and a sensor device (40) with a pivoted sensor finger (41), fitted in a groove (16) in the surface of the exposure drum, a cooperating microswitch (44) providing a signal upon contacting the printing plate edge. An independent claim for a method for detecting the edge of a printing plate in a printing plate recording device is also included.
