PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external keyboard device and a command transmission method with not only numerical keys but also various function keys for which a user enables input of the numerical keys and the function keys. SOLUTION: The external keyboard device 1 and the command transmission method of this invention provide NumLock function, in which a numerical mode or a function mode is manually switched, on/off status of NumLock key of a notebook personal computer 2 is automatically detected in the numerical mode or the function mode, whether it is necessary to embed NumLock_ON or NumLock_OFF control signal before/after a signal during a key signal output or not is determined and transmitted to the notebook personal computer 2.
