PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical receptacle that stabilizes a force in inserting and pulling out a plug ferrule and that improves reproducibility of connection loss. SOLUTION: The optical receptacle is structured such that one end of a fiber stab with an optical fiber fixedly inserted in the through hole of a ferrule is fastened in a holder, and that the other end of the fiber stab is retained on a sleeve for holding a plug ferrule to be connected to the tip end face of the fiber stab. This optical receptacle is formed so as to fulfill the following range or expression: 1.7L2≤L1≤2.3L2D-0.4≤L3≤D+1.2 (provided that 0.9 mm≤D≤1.6 mm) where D (mm) is the outer diameter of the fiber stab, L1 (mm) is the entire length of the sleeve, L2 is the length (mm) on which the fiber stab is retained on the sleeve, and L3 (mm) is the length on which the fiber stab is fastened on the holder.
