PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection plane information acquiring device for easily acquiring information on a projection plane in an arbitrary direction ahead of projection from a projector. SOLUTION: A projector 2 is structured so that a projected image is reflected by a half mirror 6, a camera 3 is structured so that a photographed image is reflected twice by half mirrors 5 and 6, and a range finder 4 is structured so that an acquired distance image is transmitted through the half mirror 6. A rotary mirror control means in a computer controls the rotary position of a rotary mirror 7 to arbitrarily control the direction of projection. The camera 3 acquires an image on a projection plane, which is an arbitrary destination of projection, the image coinciding with an optical axis of the projector 2, while the projector 2 simultaneously acquires a distance image on a projection plane, which is an arbitrary destination of projection, the distance image coinciding with the optical axis of the projector 2. A projection control means in the computer controls the inputting of information acquired from the camera 3 and range finder 4, and the outputting of projected information.
