PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-use video recording/reproducing apparatus in which character data are extracted from imaged video signals to superpose and display additional information based on the extracted character data on a reproducing screen. SOLUTION: There is provided the video recording/reproducing apparatus equipped with a recording means for recording the imaged video signals by an imaging means on a predetermined recording medium, and a reproducing means for reproducing the video signals stored on the recording medium to display the video. The video recording/reproducing apparatus includes a character extracting means for extracting the character data contained in the video signals when the video signals are recorded on the recording medium, a character recording means for recording the character data extracted by the character extracting means on the predetermined recording medium, an information collecting means for collecting the additional information associated with the character data via a network together with read out character data when the character data recorded on the recording medium are read out, and a telop display means for superposing and displaying the additional information collected by the information collecting means as a telop on a display screen on which the video signals read out by the reproducing means are displayed.
