<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good image over a long period of time by preventing the thinning of the line width occurring due to shaving of a photoreceptor surface. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a conductive member containing an ion conducting material is used as a transfer roll. The environment is detected by its environment dependency characteristic. Furthermore, constant current control is carried out each time when the surface potential of a photoreceptor surface is shadow potential / highlight potential. The difference in the output voltage and the difference in the shadow / highlight potentials in the initial period of the photoreceptor made to be recognized by the image forming apparatus is compared and the variation in the thickness of the film on the surface of the photoreceptor surface is predicted and density compensation process corresponding to the film thickness is carried out. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
