The invention relates to a device and a method for producing images in a motor vehicle. An infrared sensitive camera produces the images of the vehicle environment. A source emitting radiation in the near infrared spectral range is used for pulsed lighting of the partial image capture areas of the camera. Said camera produces images by capturing the partial areas of the coded image space thereof. A temporal synchronisation by the pulsed lighting of the partial area containing the partial image space is carried out for capturing the partial image storage space. In the preferred embodiment of said invention, the capturing of the partial image areas of a CMOS camera which is infrared sensitive is temporally synchronised with the aid of a laser diode assembly which emits in the near infrared spectral range.
