PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly reduce the height dimension of a carriage scanning part, eventually the entirety of a recording device, and to improve the recording precision. SOLUTION: A carriage 401 is guided slidably in a scanning direction by a guide shaft 402 and a guide rail 305, and detachably holds a recording head cartridge which has a recording head and an ink tank. The guide shaft 402 and the guide rail 305 are arranged nearly horizontally. An encoder scale 408 is hung in parallel to the guide shaft 402 between both side faces of a chassis. An encoder sensor 407 set at the carriage 401 detects carriage position information on the encoder scale 408 along with the scan of the carriage 401. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
