PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of a multi laser system which prevents generation of pitch irregularities. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a plurality of laser lights which are generated from a laser chip 44 with a plurality of lasers arranged at different positions in a vertical scanning direction, and are modulated by a plurality of different image signals, respectively are simultaneously emitted onto a photoreceptor 11 at the time of scanning in the main scanning direction, thereby forming a plurality of image lines in the vertical scanning direction. Moreover, the image forming apparatus has a rotary polygon mirror 33 for moving the plurality of laser lights in the main scanning direction for scanning. A rotational velocity of the rotary polygon mirror 33 is changed in accordance with an image magnification, and at the same time an interval in the vertical scanning direction of the plurality of lasers is changed according to the image magnification.
