PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a round column which is excellent in the accuracy of shape, has no residual stress and sufficient toughness and a method of manufacturing the round column. SOLUTION: The round column 5 is obtained by heating a half-formed round column 1 like a trapezoidal cylinder having outside diameters Dα, dαlarger than the prescribed outside diameters D, d, thereafter hot-forming the half-formed round column 1 by a forming means 11 into the round column 5 with an end 1a and the other end 1b having the different prescribed outside diameters D, d respectively. By performing hot forming of the half-formed round column which has the low accuracy of bending, the accuracy of shape is improved without performing manual finishing work required much labor and hours even when it has thick thickness and a large diameter. Since the round column is manufactured by hot forming, the round column is almost free from residual stress, has high buckling strength, is excellent in secondary weldability and has sufficient toughness.
