An automotive exhaust system terminates in a pipe with an outlet. The final section of the pipe has a surrounding clamp with an extension rod (24) in a sliding fixture (21, 22). The rod extremity has a ring clamp for an exhaust gas filter (1). The filter insert is supported by a ring frame/clamp (14). The filter insert can be made from a variety of materials e.g. gauze, perforated sheet metal etc. The filter exchange can be effected by an articulated rod (24) with a foot lever or clamshell fixture.
