The brake light (1) for a motor vehicle has a first display area with a first lamp (4) to produce a first brake warning signal from a first brake operation. It has a second display area with a second lamp (6) for a second light signal with a preset figure image (10,11) to display extra information. The lamp can produce a variable light output and the figure display can be formed as a mask (8). Claims include a motor vehicle using the brake light.
