PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous composition for magnetic coating having excellent dispersibility of a magnetic pigment even in a high content of the pigment based on the amount of the resin and containing an emulsion causing much reduced penetration into various kinds of substrates, e.g. paper, in coating, compared with current types. SOLUTION: The composition comprises (I) a latex obtained by seed-polymerizing (a) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer mixture containing a diene type unsaturated monomer and (b) an anionic emulsifier in the presence of (c) a seed latex, (II) a self-dispersing aqueous polyurethane and (III) a magnetic pigment.
