The applicator part of the device comprises an applicator roll (5) and a support arm (2) for the latter. The arm is mounted on the frame (1) so that the film (6) can be guided around the applicator roll, which in turn is rolled over the object (4). A device for applying a film to an object such as a motor car comprises a frame (1) for supporting a roll of film and an applicator for transferring the film from the roll and applying it to the object. The applicator comprises an applicator roll and a support arm for this roll. The arm is mounted on the frame so that the film can be guided around the applicator roll, which in turn is rolled over the object. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating device, comprising the following steps: (a) rotating a work arm into a position where it is in contact with the film so that the latter is fixed in position; (b) rotating the work arm further so that the film is passed around a part of the applicator roll circumference; (c) stopping movement of the work arm once the fixed end of the web is next to the object; (d) moving the object and applicator roll together so that the film is pressed against the object by the work arm and the end of the film is attached to the object; (e) releasing the film from the grip of the work arm; and (f) rolling the applicator roll along the film in the direction of the end of the film attached to this roll, whilst pressing the film against the object. |
