A leveling assembly comprising at least two leveling elements and having an uppermost surface for seating a free-standing object. Elements are generally wedge-shaped, have upper and lower surfaces angled to one another, are adapted to be placed one on the other and rotated relative to one another in order to vary the angle between the uppermost and lowermost assembly surfaces. The elements may have co-operating guiding means or co-operating connecting means to aid in rotating the elements relative to one another and to resist shifting. In addition, the surfaces of the elements may be adapted with concave or cavity portions in order to allow better seating on a surface. Reference markings placed on the elements aid in determining a suitable rotation of the elements relative to one another in order to compensate for a given slope.
