PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect the amount of contamination of an insulator, even if there are changes in the surrounding atmosphere, in a method for detecting the amount of contamination of the insulator from a leak current value, the temperature and the degree of humidity of the surface of the insulator.
SOLUTION: A thermal capacity causes a time delay in the temperature of the insulator 1, relative to a circumferential temperature, and also causes the suction and discharge of moisture from a contaminant 13. A time delay is thereby caused in the level of relative humidity of the surface of the insulator, relative to the degree of circumferential humidity. The amount of contamination can be detected precisely by calculating the amount of contamination from the humidity level, the temperature and the leakage current of the surface of the insulator.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
|
