PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high frequency electrodeless discharge lamp capable of generating a high luminance light emission by using a small size discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp device comprises a conductive mesh 2 which connects the open end of a waveguide 1 of a rectangle made of a conductive material having an open end on one face of the six faces, a high frequency energy supply means 6 which introduces high frequency energy into the waveguide from a long side face of the waveguide 1, and a conductive member 3 which is fixed to one of the long side faces of the waveguide 1 and extends to the other opposing long side face. The electrodeless discharge lamp 4 is installed between the conductive mesh 2 and the conductive member 3 and, by the high frequency energy introduced by the high frequency energy supply means 6, discharge plasma is formed inside the tube of the electrodeless discharge lamp 4.
