PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new process for producing a block polymer in which various polyolefins having good moldability and polar polymers are chemically bonded with one another by using a new macroazo compound as an initiator. SOLUTION: The process for producing the block copolymer having a polyolefin skeleton comprises polymerizing one or more monomers selected from organic compounds having at least one carbon-carbon unsaturated bond with the use of a macroazo compound having a polyolefin chain in the molecule represented by formula (I) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each a lower alkyl group or a cyano group; X and X' are each a lower alkylene group; W and W' are each a bonding group selected from an ester group, an amide group, and an ether group; and P and P' are each a polymer chain obtained by homopolymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin represented by the formula: CH<SB>2</SB>=CHR<SP>5</SP>(wherein R<SP>5</SP>is a 1-20C carbon group, hydrogen or the like)].
