PURPOSE: A digital communication system for improving an equalization performance in response to a channel state and an operating method therefor are provided to judge a channel state of an input signal using inputted N field synchronous signals and improve the equalization performance on the basis of channel state information. CONSTITUTION: A channel state judging unit(340) judges a channel state of an input signal using a field synchronous signal of the input signal. An equalizing unit(350) initializes parameters on the basis of the judged channel state, and compensates the channel distortion of the input signal according to the initialized result.
