PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a tetrahydroborate at a low cost under mild reaction conditions. SOLUTION: A gas containing an oxygen receptor gas (e.g. carbon monoxide and/or a 5C or lower hydrocarbon), a hydrogen gas, and an oxygen gas is supplied to a raw material containing a borate in the method for manufacturing a tetrahydroborate by hydrogenating the raw material. The oxygen receptor gas receives oxygen ions of the borate, generating a volatile gas (e.g. carbon dioxide) and water. Thus, the treatment of products becomes simple, lowering the manufacturing cost. The supply of the oxygen gas causes the reaction to spontaneously proceed under mild conditions. A coke oven gas may be used as the supplied gas.
