<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device in which a tubular light source can be precisely and easily fixed to the light guide plate and suppression of luminance unevenness and heat radiation from the light source can be made effectively. <P>SOLUTION: The light guide plate 1 is made of a flat part 10 having a light emitting face and a light source insertion part 11 that is formed integrated on the light source 2 side ( light entering face ) and the light source insertion part 11 is formed only for a prescribed length from both ends of the light entering face and is provided with an insertion hole for inserting the tubular light source 2. The both ends of the light source 2 are inserted and fixed to the recess provided at the engaging part 41 of a lamp holder 4 and this engaging part 41 is inserted into the insertion hole of the light source insertion part 11.
