A process for producing or connecting at least two plastic pipe and/or wall elements (10,11) comprises placing a welding film (14) between the components. The film absorbs wavelengths between 150 and 2500 nm, esp 500-1500 or 800-1000 nm. The film consists of a plastic which is transparent to laser or infra red light, and which contains particles that absorb specific wavelengths. The film is extruded, sprayed or pressed, and the particles consist of an infra red sensitive organic or inorganic material. The weld seam is in the transition region (13) of the pipe and/or wall element, near the neck (12).
